Mountaineering is the mountaineering and caving instruction and guiding
company run by Jules Barrett. Welcome to the website!
The
courses
and guiding options that I offer are diverse and flexible;
anything from a single days tuition to
a week-long holiday in the mountains. The programs cover a wide range
of activities including hillwalking and scrambling, winter
mountaineering, rock climbing and caving. Whether
you want to improve your navigation, push your hillwalking onto
scrambling ground, make the transition from climbing wall to rock,
learn the techniques of multi-pitch climbing or explore some of the
UK's classic cave systems, I can help. I cater
for all abilities and am honest about the fitness and
skills requirements of the courses. Be assured that these courses are
not
just for the
super-fit! If
the dates
that you want do not appear on here please let me
know and I will do my best to accommodate. Some people
have personal ambitions,
such as the traverse of the Cuillin Ridge, the Inaccessible Pinnacle,

Orion Mountaineering is a small company and I run all courses myself. I am a
full-time mountaineering and caving instructor based in Sheffield and working
throughout the UK including the Peak District, Scottish Highlands, Isle of
Skye, Snowdonia, the Lake District, South West England and the Yorkshire Dales.
I have been an active climber for over
fifteen years and have a wide range of climbing experience
ranging from the sea cliffs of Scotland to major north face routes
in the alps. I hold the
Mountain Instructors
Award (MIA) and the Winter Mountain Leader Award so am qualified to teach all aspects of rock climbing.
I have a wide variety of caving experience throughout the UK and abroad and hold the Cave Instructor
Certificate - the highest UK qualification for cave instructing. I am involved in various cave exploration
projects in the UK and abroad and am a member of the Cave Diving Group
and Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation (DCRO).
As well as running Orion Mountaineering I
sometimes do freelance work for local education authority outdoor centres,
climbing walls and organisations who deliver training and assessment of
the Mountain Leader Award, Walking Group Leader, Single Pitch Award and
the Climbing Wall Award.
This wide breadth of
experience allows me to bring a unique perspective to the
training courses that I offer.
