OK - so it's not mountaineering but we're also massively into caving and qualified to give you the tour of the finest caves in the Peak District and Yorkshire. There's all sorts of caves from tricky and tight to huge caverns where you can stand and look up at the ceiling yawning 100ft above. Sometimes the beam from your high powered caving light won't even reach to the roof. Derbyshire and Yorkshire have some of the best caving in the country and the Orion team are on a mission to make caving...well...err...sexy! Of course, we manage the safety aspects very carefully and try particularly hard to organise the right kind of caving trip for you. If you fancy the idea of a day spent abseiling down waterfalls, climbing caving ladders, and seeing some amazing underground sights, join us for one of our caving days. Evening Sessions (Peak District)

The Peak District has some of the finest caving in the country but caving's traditionally not been an easy sport to get involved in. There's lots of kit and skills to learn and the underground environment can be unforgiving. These evening sessions feel like 'proper cavers trips' but you'll be looked after every step of the way by a qualified cave leader. We keep numbers small to ensure we get as much done as possible. We meet at 7p.m. and finish at 10 and then it's up to you whether you want to head off or join us at a popular cavers pub for a drink. Click below for a load more information.

Introduction to Caving (Peak District)

If you're not sure whether caving's for you, this is the course to find out. NO YOU WON'T GET STUCK! You'll explore one of the classic caves of the Peak District, see some amazing rock architecture, stalactites and other fun stuff as we make our way down an underground stream. It'll be interesting too. Your guide will be a qualified Cave Leader who has an exhaustive knowledge of that particular cave system and can tell you all about the cave and how it was explored.

Exploring Vertical Caves (Peak District)

Some caves you just can't walk into. There's often potholes where the floor disappears and if you want to push your exploration further you've got to use ropes and caving ladders to continue. We call these vertical caves and for people who have done some caving and are familiar with the underground environment, this day is perfect. During this day you will have the chance to abseil and climb short potholes using flexible caving ladders.
