The crags and mountains of the UK offer some of the most varied rock climbing in the world. The gritstone and limestone edges of the Peak District, with easy access and relatively co-operative weather, offer great opportunities to learn the basic skills before venturing onto the mountain crags or sea cliffs in other parts of the UK. Generations of UK mountaineers have begun their climbing career here and gone on to enjoy rock climbing and mountaineering throughout the world.
The courses that I offer focus on providing climbers with the skills that they need to climb independently. For complete beginners the Introduction to Rock Climbing course is the first step and offers two days of climbing looking at equipment, climbing technique, knots, belaying and the fundamental skills of rock climbing. The Lead Climbing courses teach a full range of technical skills associated with lead climbing and we also aim to develop movement skills and confidence towards leading harder routes. Experienced climbers will benefit from the Self Rescue course which looks at rope techniques for solving problems and rescues.
If you have a particular route in mind or an area that you would like to visit private guiding can also be arranged throughout the UK. Recently I have led clients on The Old Man of Stoer, Skye's Cioch, classic Peak District limestone and Gogarth on Anglesey. Click [ here ] for more information on guiding options.
