Based in Snowdonia we will have two full days scrambling on the ridges, gullies and open faces of the Snowdon range and the Glyders. In two mountain days we will complete routes like Crib Goch, the Cwm Bochlwyd Horseshoe and Idwal Staircase on our way to the summits of some of the highest peaks in the area. Along the way we will look at route selection, equipment, forecasting conditions and techniques for safe movement on steeper ground. There is plenty of interest on these routes for anyone interested in geology, photography and natural history.

All equipment is provided (ropes, harnesses etc.) and you just need to provide your own clothing, boots and rucsack. No special footwear is required; just a robust hillwalking boot with ankle support and a well-maintained sole.

If you're looking to progress onto steeper ground and gain the skills to tackle more difficult scrambles independently, this course is for you. We'll spend five days exploring the Snowdon range, Glyders and Carneddau  tackling exciting and demanding scrambles. These might include Grade 3 routes like the Cneifon Arete and Dolmen Ridge above the Ogwen valley or Snowdon's Clogwyn y Person Arête which contain sections of moderate rock climbing.

During the week we will look at route selection and navigation, equipment,  forecasting mountain weather and simple ropework to keep you and your party safe when things get steeper - belaying, abseiling and straightforward climbing.

The remote western edge of the Lake District has been a mecca for mountain enthusiasts since the early days of mountaineering in the UK. The Scafell range and Great Gable offer some of the finest mountain journeys to be had anywhere. Based in Wasdale Head, we will have two full days scrambling in the area. We might attempt routes like Sphinx Ridge on Great Gable, the South-West Buttress of Broad Crag and Broad Stand on Scafell.

As well as reaching some lofty summits we will look at forecasting conditions, equipment, route selection, techniques for safe movement on steep ground and perhaps use of the rope for protection.

The Black Cuillin mountains of Skye are regarded by mountaineers as some of the finest and most technically challenging mountain terrain in Britain. The subsidiary buttresses that descend from the main ridge straight into the sea offer a wealth of superb scrambling opportunities. The volcanic rock, known as Gabbro, is famed for it's quality.

From the mountain summits there are incomparable views across the Atlantic ocean and the Islands of the Hebrides. The island has a wealth of interest for geologists, naturalists and photographers and anyone who enjoys mountaineering.

The two-day traverse of the twisted Cuillin Ridge is an extraordinary expedition across a dinosaur's spine of twisted granite and basalt lavas.
